In 2006, Agapedia renovated and refurbished the entire ward for malnourished children at the children's hospital in Chisinau. Previously, there was not even warm water or adequate heating. Needy mothers who came from the villages with their malnourished infants were provided with powdered milk until the end of 2017 so that they could continue to feed their children after leaving the children's hospital. At the same time, the mothers were able to take advantage of the free services offered by our socio-medical centre, as it is located right next to the children's hospital.
Mother and Child Centre Chisinau
During the day, our centre looks after small children between the ages of 0 and 3 whose mothers would otherwise have abandoned them as they have neither a job nor a place to stay. Many of the toddlers arrive at our centre in a pitiful state and first need to be nursed back to health. While the children slowly recover during the day with our loving team of staff, the mothers either have to catch up on their school-leaving qualifications or go to work so that they can support themselves and their child independently in the future. They are closely supervised by our social worker and a psychologist to strengthen and secure the mother-child bond. We have been running the project in partnership with Diaconia Moldova since summer 2022.
