Foster family program
Through our foster family program, we trained Bulgarian foster families and the foster parents were prepared to take in a child in a three-month course. This enabled abandoned children to grow up in a family of their own and actively helped to close the large, inhumane state orphanages.
Twice a year, foster parents and their children were offered a training camp with supervision, and every other month there was a round table to exchange information. In four other counties, we trained social workers within the state authorities to select and train foster families so that as many abandoned children as possible can be integrated into a family. The foster care program was fully integrated into the state community in 2021.
