Plovdiv Children's Centre

The Agapedia Children's Centre in Plovdiv was established in 2008 and has since been regularly visited by social orphans from a state children's home in the immediate vicinity. Here they receive special afternoon activities such as cookery courses, computer courses, homework supervision, creative workshops and learn general life skills. Above all, the intensive relationship work with our dedicated team of staff motivates and supports the children to strive for a school-leaving qualification.

In order to be successfully integrated into Bulgarian society, a qualified school leaving certificate and vocational training are essential. Our social workers accompany and support the young people between the ages of 15 and 18 on their way out of the home and into an independent life. They help them to deal with the authorities, find accommodation, register and apply for school or choose a vocational training programme. In addition, our team in Plovdiv regularly visits another state children's home with toddlers aged between 0 and 6 and a children's home in the village of Lissiteschevo, around 50 kilometres from Sofia. There we play with the orphans, celebrate birthdays, do handicrafts and build up a trusting relationship in the bleak conditions.
