Community care in the villages

On the Human Development Index 2018 (index of human development in the areas of health, education and income), the Republic of Moldova ranks 112th and is therefore still the poorest country in Europe. As Romanian is also spoken in Moldova and we had gained a lot of experience with post-communist structures in Romania, the idea arose to utilise the synergies and set up aid projects here too. We travelled to Moldova for the first time at the end of the 1990s.
After several trips and lengthy discussions, we were lucky enough to meet Mrs Ecaterina Mardarovici. As a former member of parliament, she was very familiar with the conditions and problems in the country. It was a matter close to her heart to help the abandoned children. In 2001, the Moldovan Agapedia Foundation was finally established. Since then, a team of over 20 employees has been active in various projects.
The Republic of Moldova (Moldova) is 33,700 square kilometres in size and has 3.5 million inhabitants, sandwiched between Romania and Ukraine.

Moldova was part of the Soviet Union until 1991. Around 60% ethnic Romanians, an autonomous republic of Transnistria, a contested state language in everyday life: Romanian, or Russian? Visa required to enter Romania. The most fertile land, a country torn apart in many ways.
