European Solidarity Corps

Since 2013, Agapedia has been a recognized institution of the EU's European Solidarity Corps programme (formerly: European Voluntary Service). Young people from Europe can contribute their ideas and gain valuable experience in NGO work at the Esslingen Children's Center for up to one year.

We would like to thank YOUTH IN ACTION thank you! The volunteers from other European countries are an incredible enrichment for the young Agapedia visitors. Many of the children who come to the children's center every day have a migration background. This gives them a positive experience of cultural diversity and an insight into everyday life in different European countries.

Participant perspective

What does voluntary service mean for us? It means spending a year away from your home country. A year of self-development and self-realization, everything is in flux. But we are also constantly confronted with fears and stereotypes for a year. We could add to this list forever. Reading stories from other volunteers is one thing, feeling and experiencing them yourself is something completely different. This year seems so endless, so full of people, new friends, so many trips. Simply unforgettably wonderful, even today. So many new impressions and opportunities: from project work, to creative design with the children, to the intensive training seminars of the European Voluntary Service. Our perspectives have already broadened incredibly. Thank you!

The volunteers for the 2023/2024 season

A warm welcome to our new volunteers! Anna comes from Armenia and has been at the Esslingen Children's Center since September 2023. She enjoys sports and is looking forward to playing soccer and basketball with the children from very different countries and cultures, encouraging them and giving them a positive influence. Her language skills in Armenian, Russian, English and German are a great help for us and our Ukrainian refugee children! Kaan from Turkey has also been part of the Esslingen team since October. Kaan grew up as a child in Germany before returning to Turkey with his family. He also inspires the kids with basketball and soccer and uses his manual skills in everyday life. Zeynep also comes from Turkey and has been working at the K19 Children's Center in Geislingen since October. She studied law and is interested in immigration law. She facilitates communication with the Turkish children who come to the center. She enjoys traveling, reading and watching movies. We are delighted that the three of them are at Agapedia and thank them for the time and love they invest in the children!

The volunteers for the 2022/2023 season

Once again this year, two volunteers are joining the Agapedia team in Esslingen. In October 2022, we welcomed Koray Koca from Turkey to the children's center. With his passion for sport and music, he is the perfect fit for us! He is already looking forward to implementing a small music project with the children. Mikel Dauti from Albania arrived in January 2023. He studied Slavic languages and is a great help to us, especially for the children from Ukraine. He is also enthusiastic about sport and loves getting involved in the children's lives.
There is also a new volunteer at the K19 Children's Center in Geislingen: Aleyna from Turkey is supporting our team this year, she has studied German and loves traveling, reading books and working with the children. We thank the three of them for their inspiration and the time they invest in the children at Agapedia!

The volunteers for the 2021/2022 season

We are delighted to welcome two new volunteers to the Esslingen Children's Center again this year! Sofya comes from Russia and has been with Agapedia since October 2021. She is a teacher of German and English and enriches our team with her experience with children and camps. She loves being outdoors and is already looking forward to starting a vegetable project in the garden with the Agapedia kids. In March 2022, Aybegüm from Turkey was finally allowed to join us and completes the team for this year! With her enthusiasm for sports, music, dancing and theater, she is just right for us at the children's center.

We thank them for the time and love they invest in the children of Agapedia!

The volunteers for the 2019/2020 season

Our new volunteers are here! We warmly welcome Florian Specht, who will be supporting our Esslingen team for a year as a federal volunteer. As a child, he spent every afternoon at the old Esslingen Children's Center for many years and knows our "Agapedia family" very well! Now he can share his former experiences with the new generation of children and is still in top shape in the circus disciplines!
Osman from Turkey is actually a mechanical engineer, but has a great pedagogical hand with our kids and is a great contact person, especially for our Turkish children! And last but not least, we are delighted to welcome Mariam from Georgia, who has lived in our children's and youth center there for the last two years as an orphan. She is very creative and artistically talented and can sew great things! When dealing with the children, she empowers the girls in particular and helps them to have confidence and try out new things!

The volunteers for the 2018/2019 season

We have had a new EVS team with us since September 2018! Samira from Norway was at the old Agapedia children's center in Esslingen almost every day as a child and therefore still knows some circus disciplines today. We are delighted that she is now back in the Agapedia family as an adult and passing on her knowledge to the children with her cheerful manner. Tamás comes from Hungary and is a gifted pianist. Before he continues his career to become a world-famous film music composer, he is giving us a year to introduce the Agapedia children to the world of music. Yana is from Bulgaria and has lived in Agapedia's sheltered housing in Sofia for the past 10 years. She has therefore also been part of our family for a long time and we are very grateful to have her here with her enthusiasm for dance, sport and music.

The volunteers for the 2017/2018 season

From October 2017 to August 2018, we had three very talented young women with us: Inna from Russia inspired us with her artistic talent in many areas. She performed dance, clowning, acrobatics and many arts and crafts activities with the children. Shoghik from Armenia was our sunshine! She was full of energy and got the kids excited about sports and games. Sophie from America supported us a lot with her organizational skills in the office. She always prepared and carried out her sports and English workshops with great care.

We would like to thank the three of them for the time and love they have given to the Agapedia team and especially to the children.

The volunteers for the 2014/2015 season

In October 2015, we said goodbye to Dogukan from Turkey, Khatia from Georgia and Iryna from Ukraine. We would like to thank them for their great commitment! They were our 2nd season of EVS volunteers and greatly enriched the children's center. Their commitment during the three-week ArtCamp was particularly outstanding. They also organized their own workshops such as guitar, keyboard, soccer and English. At their invitation, we also received support from artists from Georgia and Turkey! The summer holiday program was sponsored by the Kinderland Foundation.
